Safety
Grunley Construction is dedicated to providing a healthy and safe workplace for all of its employees, subcontractor personnel and building occupants. Safety awareness and enforcement begins with the acknowledgment and combined support of Grunley's President, Ken Grunley, and upper management. Greg Druga, Grunley’s Vice President, provides oversight of the Safety Department. Our Corporate Safety Director and Safety Inspector are responsible for day-to-day safety operations and any project needs.
Grunley has developed and implemented a detailed Corporate Safety Plan (PDF) that addresses various aspects of safety information that is directly related to our construction activities. A copy of the plan is given to each Grunley employee and Subcontractor, along with updated modifications and supplements (PDF) Compliance with the plan is the minimum requirement for all subcontractors and personnel that work with Grunley.
Before construction activities commence, the Corporate Safety Director and project staff fully evaluate the job activities and establish a Job Specific Safety Plan. Safety planning continues as the work takes place and is discussed in detail with each subcontractor at preparatory and weekly foreman's meetings. These meetings include review of the specific work to be performed and recognition of potential hazards needing to be addressed and resolved prior to the work taking place and as the work progresses.
Grunley's safety program and our construction staff have been effective at reducing the number of incurred injuries. With over 400,000 manhours recorded since 2006, Grunley has -
- A current EMR of 0.65
- Had a zero incident rate since 2005
The firm has earned STEP Platinum from the Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. for the last six years in a row.
Project safety is further enhanced through:
- A mandatory requirement that all workers wear safety eye-wear on Grunley projects;
- Weekly jobsite safety meetings for all field employees and subcontractor personnel;
- Weekly foremen meetings;
- Scheduled formal safety training sessions for project managers, superintendents, coordinators, QC managers, foremen and tradesmen;
