Arlington Public Schools Awards Grunley Construction the Reed School/Westover Library Project
Grunley Construction has been awarded the Reed School/Westover Library Project, valued at $17.2 million. The project includes both renovations and major new additions to the existing Walter Reed School in Arlington, VA. The existing structure consists of the original building constructed in 1938 and numerous additions
constructed in the 1940's, 1960's and 1990's. Grunley will selectively separate the original 1938 building and then demolish all of the additions. The existing building facade will be preserved and restored. New additions totaling ~55,000 SF will be constructed to better suit the
overall appearance of the building. The mechanical and electrical systems will be replaced throughout.
The scope also involves extensive earthwork, site utilities, landscaping, and hardscaping. The total square footage of the building upon completion of our contract will be 61,000 SF and will house Arlington Public School programs (45,000 SF) and the new Westover Library (16,000 SF).
This is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Project. The duration is approximately 16 months.
