GRUNLEY AWARDED GARAGE INFILL PROJECT AT NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AMERICAN HISTORY

Rockville, MD – The Smithsonian Institution has awarded local contractor, Grunley Construction Company, Inc. (Grunley), a $9.6 million contract to renovate a portion of its National Museum of American History located in Washington, DC. As the general contractor, Grunley will convert the existing parking garage (approximately 30,000 SF), located on the lower level on the south side of the building, into a suite of offices. The new space will feature two glass freestanding pavilions located at the east and west ends of the garage infill space.
The project, designed by Beyer Blinder Belle, Architects & Planners, LLC, will include structural modifications, architectural upgrades, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and security renovations to accommodate the building’s new functions. The museum will remain open and fully operational during the construction process. As part of the National Mall, the National Museum of American History is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Grunley Construction, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, specializes in historic renovations, and is ranked by Engineering News Record among the “Top 400” and "Top Green Contractors" in the United States.
