National Airport FaCade and Window Repair

By: Carina Gonzalez, Project Coordinator

Current Status

The National Airport Façade Restoration is well on its way to completion. The concrete restoration has been completed and the second coat of Keim for the façade is underway. Keim is a highly durable, environmental-friendly, non toxic, acid rain resistant mineral based liquid used for restoring concrete.

Cornice mock-up - Grunley recreated the cornice to match the original design.

All of the new windows and all of the louvers have been installed; installation of new window trim is underway. The existing windows are currently receiving a fresh coat of paint.

The majority of the finishes for the office space is complete. The paint has been approved and the work will begin as soon as it arrives at the site.

Originally, the cornice was supposed to be restored. However, due to a change order the new plan for the cornice is for it to be demolished and recreated to match the original design. New forms were specially made to match the asymmetrical radius of the building. This task is about 90% finished and looks fantastic.

Next, the doors and hardware will be installed and the restoration of the loggia will begin.  The team has done a great job and is looking forward to seeing the National Airport complete.
