Child Development Center AT PAX RIVER

A Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on June 8, 2011.

By: Michael Vaughn, Project Manager

Grunley/Goel Joint Venture (GGJV) has been awarded the design and construction of a $13M, 31,000 sq. ft. Child Development Center (CDC) to provide day care and family services for children ranging in ages from infant to toddler. With the construction of the new CDC, the Child Youth Program will more than double its current capacity for these services.

The CDC building will have a residential feel and blend into the surrounding setting. It will be a brick veneered single story structure of including a slab on grade with load bearing CMU walls and structural steel framing supporting a light gauge metal truss roof. The roof itself will be a standing seam metal panel system and the significant use metal/glass storefronts within the wall system will allow all Child Activity Rooms to exit directly to the outside and provide abundant natural light into each room.

Interior construction includes light gauge metal framing and painted gypsum, welded linoleum flooring, ACT, and interior corridor windows at all rooms. Warm colors will be used to provide an inviting and home like feel.

Additionally, the exterior of the building will have playground areas divided by age groups that will have equipment that not only provides a fun play area, but encourages learning through challenges, achievements, and interaction with the environment.

Current Status

GGJV and the Lukmire Partnership (Architect) have submitted a 35% Design Development package for review by the Owner. GGJV is also working on awarding subcontracts to the major construction trades (Concrete, Masonry, MEP, Structural).

What’s Next?

Pending approval of the MDE permit, GGJV is scheduled to begin site work soon. Shortly after, the 65% Design Development package will be submitted and the remainder of subcontracts will be awarded by the end of the year. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2012.
