Construction is well underway on the $16.5 million phase 4A modernization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture South Administration Building. This contract involves the renovation of the first through sixth floor and attic areas of the fifth wing at the USDA building. When completed, the wing will have:

The new work being installed is designed to support the LEED®-Commercial Interior (CI) certification status being sought by the project team.

The early phases of the work have been focused on the demolition and abatement of old lead- and asbestos-containing materials on each floor. This work has started on the sixth floor and has been proceeding down the levels in order to allow the other trades to begin the installation of new work. In addition to the interior office fit-out of each floor, new bathrooms, electrical and mechanical rooms are being installed on each floor.

Currently, layout for new work is taking place in the attic and fifth floor with piping and mechanical trades beginning work. Coordination drawing efforts by the MEPF trades continue for the other floors in preparation for work to begin there shortly too.

In the spring, work on roof activities will begin with new penetrations for mechanical systems and a new chiller to be installed on top of the roof.
