Grunley Construction Awarded $33.3M Contract to Fit-Out Portion of the New U.S. Capitol Visitor Center
Rockville, MD (July 17, 2005) - Grunley Construction, a local general contracting firm, has been selected to perform the interior fit-out of 170,000 SF of House and Senate expansion space inside the new three-level Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The new space, although it lies adjacent to the visitor center facilities, will be separated by secure corridors and will subsequently be open to Congressional representatives and their staff. Once completed, the new space will feature:

- Hearing/meeting rooms;
- TV- and radio-studios; and
- State-of-the-art media infrastructure for both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.
The CVC addition is being constructed underground on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol, thereby maintaining its historic appearance and Frederick Law Olmsted landscaping. Grunley's fit-out project is a portion of the largest addition ever to the U. S. Capitol. The CVC-once completed-will contain 580,000 square feet of floor space on three levels, within its 196,000-square-foot "footprint" on the East Front of the Capitol.
The facility must remain in complete operation, serving its entire constituency, throughout the construction process. In announcing this award Kenneth Grunley, president of the company stated, "Grunley is very excited to have this opportunity to be part of this historic project. This is clearly a milestone for our firm and a great privilege." Site mobilization started in June 2005; Grunley's work is scheduled for completion in December 2006.
