GRUNLEY CONSTRUCTION HOLDS TOPPING OUT CEREMONY AT BUILDING K OF GEORGE P. SHULTZ NATIONAL FOREIGN AFFAIRS TRAINING CENTER
Rockville, MD – On Monday, September 22, 2008 Grunley Construction Company, Inc., a local general contractor, held a topping out ceremony at Building K of the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia. Here, the firm is constructing two new base buildings (Buildings F and K) for the State Department through the U.S. General Services Administration. The last piece of steel was set on Building K on September 9, 2008. Building F is further along in the construction process.
Representatives of GSA, the State Department, Jacobs Facilities (the Construction Manager), Holabird & Root (the Architect/Engineer), Grunley Construction, Major Subcontractors and their tradesmen participated in the event. Grunley Senior Project Manager Doug Cruce thanked all the participants for their help in making the project a success, particularly the craft workers. The facilities—once completed—will serve as training, classroom, office and assembly space.
Typically, topping out ceremonies involve setting an evergreen tree atop the structure for good luck, along with a state or national flag.
Grunley Construction provides a full spectrum of professional construction services, and is well known for its expertise in renovations, restorations, modernizations and additions. The firm is listed among the Engineering News Record’s Top 400 Contractors.
