GRUNLEY CONSTRUCTION TO BUILD TWO NEW STRUCTURES AT GEORGE P. SHULTZ
NATIONAL FOREIGN AFFAIRS TRAINING CENTER

Rockville, MD – (November 5, 2007) The General Services Administration has awarded Grunley Construction, a local general contractor, an initial $37 million to construct two new buildings totaling ~133,000 square feet at the U.S. Department of State’s George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA. Infrastructure upgrades will be made to support the addition of both buildings. The firm fixed price procurement could grow to as much as $42 million should GSA exercise additional options. Once completed, the two buildings will serve as administrative and instructional space for the State Department. Holabird & Root, LLC designed the project and will serve as the Architects/Engineers of Record. Jacobs Facilities, Inc. will act as the Owner’s Construction Manager.

The two primary buildings, Buildings K and F, will be three stories and include new high efficiency mechanical and electrical systems, security upgrades, brick facades, and flat roofs. The interior finishes will be modern educational style environments with training, classroom, office and assembly spaces complete with state of the art audio-visual equipment. Building K will connect to the existing training center and new addition via a new connector link constructed primarily of steel and glass. Construction got underway in mid-October 2007 and is scheduled to complete in 21 months.
