This Grunley/Goel Joint Venture Project involved the modernization and building of two new additions at Brightwood Elementary School, an occupied, historic facility located at 1300 Nicholson Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20011.
The two-year, phased project involved:
- The demolition of an existing one-story modular classroom.
- The construction of a new Commons Building Addition (pictured above left) which includes a gymnasium, cafeteria, basketball court, administration area, music and art classrooms (above right), media center, and improvements to mechanical and electrical systems.
- The construction of a new Academic Wing which added eight new classrooms, along with numerous site improvements, including a new parking lot, play area, sidewalks, lawns and landscaping.
- The modernization of the existing main building (interior and exterior renovations), and completion of the site work including new sidewalks, and landscaping.
The school has a new curtainwall and features high-end finishes throughout.
