Grunley Construction renovated the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Arlington, Virginia. The school serves 567 children grades six through eight and is also used as a community center by Arlington County. The objective of the project was to improve the appearance and functionality of the school and improve daylight to enhance student learning and faculty efforts. The construction was phased in order to maintain operations of the school/community center.

As part of the scope, Grunley renovated a majority of the 230,000 SF existing space. Major mechanical systems were replaced. Approximately 20 new modular air handling units were installed. Portions of the existing electrical systems were modernized, including lighting replacements, and all life safety systems. Interior improvements included new finishes and paint throughout a majority of the school and the renovation of the cafeterias and media center (including new finishes and millwork).

Exterior improvements included new window and skylight installations, repair/modification of existing windows, masonry repair and pointing, roof system replacement, and exterior painting.
