Heavy area flooding this summer deposited over 4 feet of water in the basement of the IRS HQ Building as Grunley was nearing completion of this five-year, $61+ million modernization project. To prevent mold contamination and other heath hazards associated with a wet environment, Grunley removed all:
- Drywall finishes in their entirety from the basement level,
- Millwork and partitions within the bathrooms and snack bar due to water saturation, and
- Insulation 5 feet and below from all surfaces in the basement, and 20 feet and below in the sub-basement.
Grunley helped to bring critical mechanical and electrical systems back on-line. The building was closed during the rehabilitation of the building systems, but was re-occupied on the upper floors while the architectural finishes and the balance of work was completed. This work included:
- Replacement of all drywall and finishes in the basement level,
- Reconstruction of the fitness center and snack bar areas completed by Grunley under the modernization contract,
- Replacement of all doors due to water saturation, and
- Replacement of all floor finishes.
