Grunley Construction is completing renovations to the Mary E. Switzer Building at 330 C Street, SW, Washington, DC. Funding for this project is being provided by the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009." Grunley completed Phase 1 in 2008.
Phase 2 involves modernizing 311,000 SF of building space and constructing a new 18,000 SF addition. The building remains partially occupied throughout the period of construction.
In addition to complete removal of the existing interior construction (including hazardous material removal) and installation of new HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety and energy-efficient lighting systems, Grunley will convert the 6th and 7th floors mechanical spaces into open office space and extend renovated elevators to the new 6th and 7th floors. The balance of the project includes repair and cleaning of the façade; replacement of the perimeter windows and roof; and a “green roof system” on a portion of the building.
The Switzer Building was initially designed to achieve LEED NC v.2.1 Silver Certification. However, recent High Performance Green Building (HPGB) changes have resulted in the viability of achieving a higher level of LEED certification.
