The project involves expanding the Fort Detrick education center by 18,000 SF and constructing a new 10,000 SF community auditorium within Building 1520. Two buildings will also be demolished, and site restoration performed. The project will seek LEED® certification.
The education center will receive a new building entrance with aluminum curtain wall system, a vegetated membrane roof, and a new second floor with associated elevator and staircase. New space will be created for classrooms, offices, and conference rooms and a connector link will join the center to the adjacent existing library. The auditorium will seat 350 patrons, and include theater lighting, and new audio-visual and communication systems. New energy-efficient mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems will be installed throughout.
