This design/build project involved modernizing the State Place Wing (south wing) and half of the east and center wings of the EEOB building. Grunley completed the modernization of the 17th Street Wing (west wing) of EEOB under its Phase I contract. Construction for Phase III is underway. As a whole, the building provides office space for approx. 1,500 Federal workers, including the Office of the Vice President.

The Phase II scope included the installation of a new HVAC system, along with an entirely new electrical power and telecommunications infrastructure. A courtyard was renovated, select areas were restored to their historic condition, and hazardous material abatement and containment were performed where necessary.

Phases I and II of the EEOB modernization were designed and constructed to obtain LEED® EB certification. In Phase III, the project team has moved to LEED NC for certification compliance.
