Grunley Construction has been awarded a $96 million contract to modernize the Pennsylvania Avenue Wing (Phase III) of the historic Eisenhower Executive Office Building (EEOB) in Washington, DC. Grunley, with its A/E team led by Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc., an AECOM company, completed renovations to the 17th Street Wing (Phase I) in March 2007, and its work on the State Place Wing (Phase II) is scheduled for completion in April 2009.

The objective of Phase III is to both modernize the remaining area of EEOB (~172,000 square feet) and incorporate security enhancements to match those included in the initial phases. Design is underway and construction is slated to start on October 2009. EEOB provides administrative office space for the Executive Office of the President.

The building will be designed to obtain certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED™) rating system for Existing Buildings.
