Grunley was responsible for the complete renovation of this building formerly known as Ariel Rios. It serves as the headquarters of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Phase 1 involved the modernization of the south half of the building (300,000 square foot). Phase 2 was more extensive and completed the modernization of the remaining 600,000 square foot facility. Under a separate contract, we restored the façade. In 2002, the phase 2 modernization earned the prestigious Construction Excellence Honor in the GSA Design Awards program. In 2001, it received a Merit Award from the Associated General Contractors of Metropolitan Washington. Grunley was responsible for the complete renovation of this building.
