Grunley has completed two projects at this 600,000 square foot National Historic Landmark. The larger of the two projects was a CMc contract completed as part of a 50/50 joint venture. It involved a phased renovation of the entire building while the facility remained occupied by federal workers, including the Secretary of the Treasury. Grunley installed a new HVAC system, electrical distribution system, state-of-the-art communication and data system and fire/life safety upgrades. Additional work included installing new elevators and retrofitting others and completing custom millwork, stonework, new finishes and decorative painting. The famous historic exterior colonnade was cleaned, tuck-pointed and waterproofed. The renovation project won five awards, including “Award of Excellence as Best Renovation - Urban, Over 150,000 SF” from the MD/DC Chapter of the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Under a separate contract, Grunley served as the prime contractor for the restoration of the building’s envelope and North Plaza.
