Grunley has been awarded a $38 million contract to renovate and fit-out three buildings and construct a new guardhouse at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Two of the buildings slated for renovation – the Chancery and the Consular – were designed by one of Germany's most prominent architects, Egon Eiermann, in the 1960’s.
The eight-story Chancery Building is approximately 95,000 square feet. Grunley will perform a complete upgrade of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems; harden the structure; and conduct extensive fire proofing. The building shell will be improved by the installation of specialty windows coming from Germany. Grunley and Annen, the German window contractor, will work together in completing the Chancery’s exterior envelope. At the Chancery Annex, Grunley will install a new sprinkler system and restore the existing finishes and surrounding grounds.

Grunley will renovate the Consular building to house the German Visa counters, as well as a Welcome Center to the Embassy. The firm will also upgrade MEP systems, strengthen the structure, and restore the finishes within this building.
Construction is already underway. The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2013. The project owner is the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the German Embassy. Buchart Horn, Inc. will serve as the Construction Manager and HPP International will serve as the Architect/Engineer.
